Video: Ship sinking in N.C., rescue of 17 people underway



>> it was. let's go back to al along the jersey shore . al, we understand the coast guard is involved in a situation off hatteras this morning.

>> that's right, matt. we're getting word from elizabeth city , north carolina . the coast guard is involved in a rescue of 17 people of an 880-foot three-masted schooner, the " hms bounty ." it's sinking right now 90 miles southeast of cape hatteras . the "bounty is" is 70 miles east of hatteras and it's taking on water. 70 people are in life rafts and survival suits. a c-130 and coast guard helicopter are on scene pulling people out of the water. they expect the first survivors to make it back to elizabeth cityometime within the next hour, but, again, the " hms bounty ," a 180-foot three-masted schooner tall ship is sinking with 17 people on board. coast guard affecting a rescue right now. just one of the effects of hurricane sandy, and there will be much more like this
